Day Trips from Dar-es-Salaam

Dar-es-Salaam is a beautiful and cultural city in Tanzania. The busy municipality offers a great perspective of the traditions and city life of the locals. Sinda Island

Sinda Island is one of the many hidden gems in Tanzania. It is a secluded island located off the coast of Dar-es-Salaam. Saadani National Park

Saadani National Park is another excellent place to visit on a day trip from Dar-es-Salaam. It is located over 300 kilometres from the city; however, the long drive is worth the struggle. The park covers nearly 1,000 kilometres and is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The park also has the gorgeous mangrove-lined Wami River. You can ride a boat down the river or enjoy the spectacle of the many animals that call the river a home. You will see lesser flamingos, mangrove kingfishers, crocodiles, hippos, and a good deal of other wildlife. You can also take a safari walk, escorted by an armed ranger to keep you safe.  

Bagamoyo

You should visit Bagamoyo to learn more about the history of Tanzania. It is a small town located approximately 59 kilometres from the city. The town represents how far the people of Tanzania have come. Bagamoyo used to be the primary location for the slave trade, which has now become a prime and beautiful location for tourists. The streets, beautiful architecture, and history make it a unique experience. 

Udzungwa Mountains National Park

You will take a six-hour road trip to reach the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The breathtaking views, lovely hiking trails, and lively tropical rainforest make this a must-visit place away from the city. You can also go birdwatching because the park is home to diverse birds. 

Selous Game Reserve

Selous Game Reserve is an area within Nyerere National Park, the largest park in Tanzania. The game reserve covers nearly 50,000 square kilometres of untouched land, where endangered species and other wildlife graze peacefully. You will find giraffes, cheetahs, black rhinos, elephants and many other exciting animals in their natural habitats. The exclusive game reserve is protected and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
