7 day trip to Zanzibar

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Zanzibar is an impeccable destination for a 7 day trip, during which tourists can explore the historical centers, exotic white sandy beaches, rich culture and breathtaking scenery. Here are some recommendations for an unforgettable one week trip to this magical island:

Day 1:

On the first day, tourists should add the beautiful Stone Town to their itinerary. This UNESCO World Heritage site is excellent for those who want to observe the rich heritage of Zanzibar and explore the winding streets. The lively and colorful Darajani Market is great to visit, as it offers an insight into the local life. Tourists can buy local artefacts, souvenirs, and street food!

A good tip for going to Stone Town is to remember to dress modestly as the town is conservative, as compared to the rest of the island. At night, visitors can go to the Forodhani Night Food Market which offers an insight into the bustling life of Zanzibar, and allows tourists to enjoy foods such as Zanzibar Pizza, Mtori (plantain soup), octopus curry, biryani, ginger chai, sugarcane juice, chapati, shellfish, prawns, grilled kebabs, spiced potatoes, Urojo soup, Zanzibar tea, date nut bread, and coconut bean soup! The sunset at Stone Town is mesmerising and should be enjoyed while eating the mouthwatering food!

Day 2:

On the second day, tourists can further explore Stone Town by visiting the Old Fort, which was originally built by the Omani as a defence against the Portuguese. A walking tour with a guide can be an enriching experience as visitors learn about history and roam the beautiful ruins. To make the tour even more enriching, they can engage with locals to learn about life in Zanzibar, gain new ideas, and share experiences and wisdom! Another good idea is to visit Prison Island to see the giant tortoises, enjoy a dhow trip, explore the ancient ruins, or snorkel amongst the colorful corals.

Day 3:

On day 3, tourists can arrange a taxi or a bus ride to go to Jambiani Beach, which is a small, serene village on Zanzibar’s Southeastern coast where they can relax and lay back. An important tip is to ensure that they use an ATM before leaving Stone Town as there are no Atms on the beach. After relaxing on the beach and swimming in the crystal clear waters, they can take a twenty minute drive to the Rock, an iconic restaurant in Zanzibar which offers mouth watering delicacies, and seafood such as lobster, shrimp, and calamari. As this restaurant is very popular, tourists are advised to book in advance. The extraordinary Restaurant offers a range of tastes to suit everyone, and is well known for its scenic location, panoramic views, and mouth watering food!

Day 4:

On the fourth day, tourists can go for an excursion to the renowned spice and fruit plantations, nearby Stone Town. A visit to Zanzibar is incomplete without a spice tour. Spice farms and plantations allow tourists to see and taste many types of beautiful and unique spices, roots, and fruits, and they can enjoy viewing the plants of everyday spices! Tours such as Kidichi Spice Farm offer knowledgeable and friendly tour guides, who provide in-depth information of spices, organically grown herbs and traditional uses in cooking, medicines and cosmetics. Guests can also taste the delicious spices and fresh fruits. After that, they can go to the unique Zanzibar Butterfly Centre which is home to hundreds of butterfly species, has experienced guides, and shows beautiful habitats!

Day 5:

On day 5, travellers can go to Kizimkazi in the Southern part of Zanzibar. Here, tourists can spot species of dolphins, such as bottle-nosed or humpback dolphins. They can even swim in the crystalline waters with these friendly creatures! The best time for the expedition is in the morning because the water is cold. As the day becomes hotter, dolphins dive deeper into the water so it is difficult to spot them. Tourists can also explore the Miza Miza Caves, to explore the beauty and magic of Zanzibar.

30 minutes away is the stunning Paje beach where guests can walk on the sandy beach, learn how to kiteboard, swim in the cool water, or enjoy exciting adventures such as scuba diving, snorkelling and kayaking. The glorious sunset is a sight to see, and after the fun and excitement, tourists can enjoy delicious local food and relax on the beach.

Day 6:

For those who would like activities such as snorkeling and diving, Mnemba Atoll is the perfect place on Zanzibar. It is a stunning reef with strong current making it ideal to try drift-diving. Visitors will find plenty of species such as grouper, white pufferfish, white moray eel, and sea stars. Snorkeling costs only 55$.

Tourists can then take a 35 min road trip to the scenic Nungwi beach, where the soft sand, clear blue sea, and breathtaking sunset makes the experience unforgettable. Activities like kitesurfing, swimming, and diving can be enjoyed! The beach is small, and allows visitors to escape the crowds. The water is crystal clear so one can even see the fish swimming in the sea!

Day 7:

Upon returning to Stone Town on the last day, tourists can visit the tranquil Jozani Forest which is home to 50 various butterfly species, 40 species of birds, rare red colobus monkeys, bush pigs, antelopes, elephant shrews, and chameleons! They can walk down the boardwalk and observe the amazing Mangrove Ecosystem. The peaceful and beautiful destination, with its lush vegetation, diverse flora and fauna, and cascading waterfalls is the highlight of any vacation! They can then take a taxi to reach Zanzibar International Airport which is 7km away. Tourists are advised to book all transport, flights, and accommodations online beforehand![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
