Lake Manyara National Park
This is a place you need to visit during the rainy season. That’s when you’ll see the hippos frolicking in the water and the pink cover caused by the flamingos. The Park is also home to the tree-climbing lions, though it’s not a guaranteed sighting. So, don’t get your hopes up. Apart from the flamingos, you can spot other birds in this avian paradise.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Not a safari if you’re on a budget, Ngorongoro is beautifully placed between Arusha and Serengeti. This park has the largest rhino population apart from large numbers of hippos and hyenas. Head to Empakaai Crater if you want to get close to the wildlife and birds. This is a tour that you should undertake only with an armed guard. It’s perfect to spend an evening and is a perfect for the adventurous soul.
Lake Eyasi
For a journey of a different kind, go to Lake Eyasi where you can learn about one of the oldest tribes in the continent- the Hadzabe tribe. You might even be able to go on a hunting expedition with members of the tribe, spend a night in the village and learn more about the ways of life of the Hadzabe.
There are different types of safari experiences you can have. The most common is the road safari, in a 4×4 safari vehicle. If the park is in a remote space, your best option is a fly-in safari. In fact, aerial safari is great to get a panoramic view of the vista below you. A walking safari is slow and takes you right up and close to the animals. If you want some time on the water, do consider a boat safari. Another popular option is the hot-air balloon safari.
