Tanzania Northern Circuit – Detailed Guide 2021

Tanzania is a destination of adventure, thrill, exploration, and excitement. Its vast plains, national parks, reserves, and diverse wildlife provide many “wow” moments and opportunities for tourists. Exploring Tanzania is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity. The Northern Circuit, in particular, offers some of the best wildlife safaris in the region. If you are currently planning a trip to Tanzania, here are some destinations to consider in the Northern Circuit.

Arusha and Arusha National Park

Arusha is the gateway of the northern circuit and usually the ideal place to begin any tour. You will arrive at the Arusha International Airport, from where you will start and end your tour. Arusha itself is also an amazing city to explore.

The Arusha National Park is at a 40-minute drive from the city center. You will find various wildlife and plants, with Mt. Kilimanjaro towering over the national park in the backdrop. You may want to be on the lookout for the Colobus Monkeys, a rare species that you will not find anywhere else. The vast park has many landmarks and places to explore, including Ngurdoto Crater and Momela Lakes.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is filled with elephants, gazelles, giraffes, impalas, and other exotic species. It is only 150 kilometres from Arusha and is also the sixth largest park in Tanzania. According to sources, you can witness over 250,000 animals in the park during the peak season.

Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara National Park is another scenic park with a vast collection of wildlife, ranging from blue monkeys to hippos. Lake Manyara National Park has over 400 different species of birds. One of the most striking things about this park is the acacia forest, cluttered with mahogany trees. You will also encounter impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, and hippos.

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is spectacular, both in landscape and diversity, where you will encounter vast plains, swamps, savannahs, and lakes. The park is known globally for the Great Migration, a natural phenomenon in which over two million wildebeest migrate to Masai Mara. You may need to spend two days at the Serengeti National Park to experience it properly.

Ngorongoro Conservative Area

The Ngorongoro Conservative Area is located on the Ngorongoro Crater, which is an inactive volcano. You will get to witness the Big Five animals of Africa in this park. You will even witness the endangered black rhinos. Furthermore, you can spot jackals, wildebeests, elands, warthogs, hyenas, and many other species.

After visiting the Ngorongoro Conservative Area, you can head back to Arusha to complete your Tanzanian Northern Circuit. From Arusha, you can catch a flight home or go to Zanzibar to relax on the sandy, serene beaches. Tanzania is a fantastic place to visit. The action and safari adventure will keep you wanting more.
